One hundred years of New Zealand's Public Service

Last updated: 8 April 2013

A short history marking 100 years of the enactment of the Public Service Act 1912.

It has been 100 years since the Public Service Act 1912 came into force, and the set up of New Zealand's Public Service Commission (PSC) - now referred to as the State Services Commission (SSC).

Join us in celebrating this milestone by viewing a brief video. Please also read our centenary souvenir publication of New Zealand and public service history since 1913.

  • SSC video - Leading a State sector New Zealand is proud of since 1913: developed by videographer Fraser Rudman - produced by SSC.
  • SSC booklet - 100 Years of Public Service: an historical account prepared by historian and writer Redmer Yska - in consultation with SSC.
