Women comprised more than half (56%) the Public Service labour force, compared to 45% of the wider labour force. Women in the Public Service continued to gradually improve their position in terms of salary and representation in senior management. However, with a couple of exceptions, the data on occupations showed that the pay gap was smaller than the national average when analysed within various occupation categories. The slightly younger age structure of women in the Public Service, compared to men, accounted for some of the differences in salary distribution across salary bands.
