Table 12 shows the proportion of employees who work part-time (less than 30 hours per week). Previous SSC reports have noted the trend for the Public Service to employ relatively low proportions of part-time staff. The Public Service employs very few staff in the Personal and Protective Services group (excluding prison officers) where part-time work is highest in the labour force. However, the trend for Public Service part-time employment to be at much lower levels than the labour force is consistent across all groups.
To the extent that part-time work is an indicator of workplace flexibility and consistent with positive EEO outcomes, this indicator goes against the trends found in the rest of this report.
