Guidance for Monitoring Major Projects and Programmes is published (attached above) as a PDF file for online viewing or printing.
Note : This guidance supersedes the 2001 Guidelines for Managing and Monitoring Major IT projects. The guidance has been updated and also extended to cover non-IT projects. It is regularly updated, so please refer to this page from time to time to ensure you have the most recent version.
The guidance:

-
builds on the experience of the Major Projects Monitoring Unit and the Gateway Unit over time.
It provides:
-
an overview of accountabilities and responsibilities and the Government's requirements for ensuring good practice across the sector
-
guidance on what constitutes good project management
-
a high-level overview of how to achieve a well managed project
-
guidance on what the monitoring agencies and central agencies will look for.
