The State Services Induction is an online module that introduces individuals to working in the State sector, and what it means to serve New Zealand.
As an Individual
Welcome to the State Services Induction.
This module has been created to give you an understanding of your role in the public service. It is an interactive tool will six sections. Allow about 30 minutes to complete
You will learn about what the State services do, how we work together, how we act and behave, what we can offer you with regards to career and development opportunities, and the relationship we have with central government.
You will work through videos, quizzes, and other interactive activities as you complete the module. This is not a test, and your answers are not collected.
You can talk to your manager if you have questions about your role, your obligations, development opportunities, and how your work fits into the overall system.

As an Agency
The State services induction resource is available to be implemented in all State service agencies.
This induction module has been developed to support new starters in the State service. It has been designed to increase their understanding of what it means to be part of the State service, and provides an opportunity for a collective and consistent approach to preparing our people to work within and across, the wider system.
- There are a number of possible delivery modes for this induction module.
- Agencies can choose to use one or more of these once establishing what works best in their environment.
- It is intended to work alongside agencies own induction.
