Is the type too small? Or too large? If your browser supports text resizing (eg, recent versions of Internet Explorer or Netscape), you can alter the size of the text on the site to suit your preference. If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, go to the View menu at the top of your screen, select Text size, then choose to view with larger or smaller type. For other browsers, consult the browser Help for details on how to resize the text. Text version or graphical version? This website assesses your browser when you visit the site. If a low-end browser is being used (that is, an older version) the visitor will automatically be presented with a Text version of the site. This version retains the full information content but without unnecessary graphics or pictures. Most visitors who have been automatically diverted to the Text version are able to try the full graphics version by clicking on the Graphical version link at the top of the screen. However, only some low-end browsers will allow the Graphical version to display correctly, and visitors using a Netscape v3 browser will not be provided with the optional Graphical link. When a visitor is viewing the Graphical version, the link at the top of the screen will say Text version. Some prefer to select a text version for reasons of increased speed of navigation. Optional formats - which should you choose? The State Services Commission aims to provide all content on this website in HTML (Hypertext Markup Language). In addition, documents and publications are published in a second format - PDF (Portable Document Format). HTML multi-page layoutMost users prefer HTML for online viewing, and this is the format of the page first reached when viewing a document on this site. If the document is a large one, the HTML version is presented as a multi-page layout, accessed from a table of contents. HTML single page layoutTo view or quickly scan through an HTML document that is presented as a multi-page layout, use the single page option at the top of the screen. This will present the document as one continuous page. PDF for printing or downloadingA document in HTML is one long, unbroken piece of text when printed. A document in PDF retains the page structure and style of the original document (such as page numbering, footnotes at the bottom of each page, presentation of graphics). Therefore, for downloading or printing from the website, the PDF version is more suitable. PDF version - where to findThe PDF version of a document is located at the top of the screen. Very large documents will also be made available as several smaller files (separate chapters for instance) to reduce downloading time. These multiple files will be located at the top of the page or in the 'Related files' section at the lower left of each page. Adobe Acrobat ReaderPDF files on this website are created using Adobe Acrobat software. An Adobe Acrobat Reader is necessary to view them. An Acrobat Reader can be downloaded free of charge from the Adobe website. Can't find a document? The Search function allows you to:
